Sustainability in logistics and at Helveticor
Sustainability has been a key issue in logistics for years. Companies all over the world are developing their own approaches to modernize their vehicle fleets and optimize fuel consumption. Together with Planzer, we at Helveticor have developed holistic measures to actively shape green logistics and make our contribution to a more sustainable future.
Safety logistics places special demands on vehicles, route planning and protective measures. This makes it all the more important for us to firmly embed ecological standards and social responsibility in our daily processes. From a CO₂-reduced fleet on Swiss roads to sustainable raw material chains on a global scale, we take responsibility.
The Silver Certificate
Our efforts to reduce CO₂ and promote sustainability have been recognized by Swiss Climate AG with the “Silver Certificate” label. This certificate confirms our commitment to environmentally friendly practices and highlights our contribution to addressing the global climate crisis.

HVO100 DIESEL
As a specialist in the transport of valuables, we have the highest standards for the performance of our vehicle fleet. To ensure that we can seamlessly combine this requirement with our environmental awareness, we are using the innovative HVO100 (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) renewable fuel across our fleet of around 16 armored vehicles.
This renewable diesel is made from 100% biological raw materials such as used cooking oils and fats from the catering industry. HVO100 can be used in all diesel vehicles without any need for retrofitting or costly investments. Compared to fossil diesel, CO₂ emissions are reduced by up to 90% and the pollutant load is thus enormously reduced.

What is HVO100 made of?
No mystery, just chemistry: Neste produces its Renewable Diesel using the patented NEXBTL process – plant oils and animal fats (mainly waste and residual materials) are hydrogenated, i.e. treated with hydrogen. The result: a pure hydrocarbon, chemically similar to fossil diesel – but renewable.
EFFICIENT ROUTE PLANNING
The most sustainable kilometer is the one that doesn’t need to be driven at all, as we continuously optimize our route planning and coordinate shipments. By pooling and coordinating deliveries, we reduce empty runs and increase the capacity utilization of our vehicles without having to make any compromises. This enables us to use our transport capacities more efficiently while reducing the number of vehicles on the road and thus relieving the traffic network. With these measures, we actively contribute to reducing traffic volume and CO₂ emissions.
SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION
Wherever possible and provided that it is safe and logistically feasible, we are shifting our transport from the road to the railways, as rail transport is one of the most sustainable forms of transportation compared to other modes of transport. Since 1 January 2025, all trains of the Swiss Federal Railways SBB have been running on renewable energy.
The rails allow us to travel long distances more efficiently and in a more environmentally friendly way, which contributes to a further reduction in our CO₂ footprint.
TRADITIONAL SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability cannot be achieved solely through modern technology and efficient planning, as sometimes the solution has been around for hundreds of years. For us, sustainability also means rethinking tried and tested methods and using completely emission-free methods in a targeted manner. In cooperation with the Planzer Group, we use our own horse-drawn carriage with Benny for selected special transports and fine distribution in the Zermatt urban area.
What at first glance seems like a charming tradition is in practice a real zero-emission solution for the car-free downtown of Zermatt.
Sustainability Across Borders
Sustainability at Helveticor does not end at the national borders, but goes 10,500 kilometers away from Zurich. As the first company in Switzerland, Helveticor has agreed to take on responsibility and help shape the gold mining in Peru in a responsible and transparent manner.
For three years, we have been supporting the Wyss Academy for Nature in Peru as logistics and security consultants, and a central part of this collaboration is the transfer of knowledge. We support them in various areas, such as the optimization of supply chain processes, the management and construction of secure infrastructures, and risk management in transport.
The current challenges in Peru show us how important professional structures and safe frameworks are for the miners on the ground. We are convinced that ecological sustainability and social responsibility must go hand in hand in order to build responsible supply chains.
What is the Wyss Academy for Nature?
The Wyss Academy for Nature is committed to responsible gold mining in Peru and especially in Madre de Dios. It is a research, innovation and implementation hub that translates scientific and local knowledge directly into action. They support the women who run and build the small mines on the ground in their goal to mine gold responsibly.
Together we are more sustainable
As we are part of the Planzer Group, we also work closely together with them in the area of sustainability and support each other. We not only share a strong logistics network throughout Switzerland with them, but also share the same values and future visions, as sustainability is an integral part of the corporate culture.
Only if we act sustainably today, can future generations do the same. That is why Planzer has launched the “Plan P” initiative, which combines the three dimensions of People, Planet and Perspective.
Through close collaboration within the group, we pool know-how, test future-proof technologies under real conditions and gradually drive the green transformation of security logistics.
