What is international freight logistics actually?
Have you ever wondered how exactly your international shipment gets to your home?
International freight forwarding logistics means safely and reliably transporting goods from A to B across borders, while keeping track of all transport routes, deadlines, regulations, and documents.
As a freight forwarder, you are something of a “travel agency for goods.” You plan and organize international transport by truck, plane, ship, courier, or train, put together the appropriate route, coordinate various partners, and take care of customs and transport documents. Your goal is to ensure that the goods arrive safely, on time, and on the right track at their destination.
At Helveticor, international freight logistics becomes even more specialized: we specialize in the transport of particularly valuable and sensitive goods, such as gold, silver, cash or highly sensitive medicines. That’s why we don’t just organize transport. Security, monitoring and flawless planning are crucial, from the pick-up point to the destination, worldwide, without losing your cool.
What are the daily tasks?
- Plan international shipments: You organize worldwide land, air, and sea freight with a focus on punctuality and safety
- Master customs and documents: You learn how to handle customs clearance, insurance, and international regulations correctly.
- Communicate globally: You interact daily with customers and partners both domestically and internationally.
- Track shipments:You keep an eye on where the goods are at any given time.
- Commercial organization: You create quotes, process orders and carry out administrative and organizational tasks.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Question
How does the application process work and what documents do I need?
For your application, you send us a cover letter, your CV with a photo, your current school certificates, and a Multicheck or Stellwerktest. If you already have any internship reports or other certificates, you are welcome to send them along as well.
If your application convinces us, we would like to get to know you personally. To this end, we invite you to an assessment (selection process) at our company, which lasts about one day. There, you will work together with other young people on various tasks. This way, we can get to know you better, and at the same time, you will gain an insight into the profession and our way of working.
By mid-October at the latest, you will receive a notification from us regarding our decision on whether you will be invited to the open day.
Do I have to be very good at math or English to apply?
You don’t have to be a math genius or speak perfect English. A good base from school is important. What’s just as important to us is interest, motivation, reliability and a willingness to learn new things. English is part of our everyday life because we work internationally. And you’ll also encounter math in a very practical way, for example when you have to calculate how many pallets fit into a truck or an airplane, convert weights, or figure out how many ounces are in a certain amount of gold or silver.
How does a trial day look like?
Our trial day takes place after the assessment. If you make it to the shortlist, we invite you to spend a day at Helveticor. You will get to know the team and various areas of work, gain direct insight into your potential future work life, and be able to perform some initial practical tasks.
The trial day provides an opportunity to gain mutual insight into the daily work routine, and you should also be able to determine whether Helveticor and the training program are really a good fit for you. Afterwards, both you and we will decide whether we want to embark on the journey together.
How is the commercial vocational school organized?
Your training combines practical work at Helveticormwith instruction at the commercial vocational school and inter-company courses (üK). With us, you won’t just get to know one area: our rotation plan will take you through various departments, giving you a comprehensive insight into our company. In addition, there areinternshipsthat are organized within the Planzer Group, where you will delve deeper into individual topics and areas of expertise.
What happens after graduation?
Our aim is to train you during your apprenticeship so that you have as many options as possible afterwards. If it suits both sides and there is a corresponding opportunity, we are of course happy if you continue your career with Helveticor and develop further with us. However, it can also be just as valuable to gain new experiences, further education or to get to know other areas after the apprenticeship and perhaps return to Helveticor later.
Finally, some valuable advice from our team for your teaching time:
“Knowing how to do something doesn’t mean you understand why you’re doing it. Question, ask, and always try to understand why things are done a certain way. Because true understanding lasts, memorized knowledge often doesn’t.” – Philip
“Use your learning time to learn as much as possible, ask questions, and show interest in what you’re doing. Find good mentors and find something you’re really interested in – because without motivation, there’s no will, and without will and effort, it’s hard to be successful in the long run.” – Chris
“An apprenticeship lasts three years. That’s a long time if you do something every day that you’re not really interested in. So choose your profession carefully and take your time” – Corina
“Shadowing days are great opportunities. Take every chance to get to know different professions and teams. The more you compare, the better you know what suits you.”– Luca
